About

Climate change mitigation is the intentional human intervention to reduce the sources or enhance the sinks of greenhouse gases. As a research field, academic concept, and methodological approach, it systematically investigates strategies, policies, and technologies aimed at limiting the magnitude of future climate change by decreasing anthropogenic emissions or increasing the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Key characteristics include the analysis of transitions to low-carbon energy systems, improvements in energy efficiency, the development and deployment of carbon capture and storage technologies, sustainable land-use practices, and the economic and social feasibility of these interventions. Its significance lies in providing the essential scientific and technical understanding required to address the root causes of climate change and constrain global warming within specified limits.
